Republic Act 11199 (Social Security Act of 2019)

Here is a piece of good news for 2019. Beginning this year employees who lost their job involuntarily may claim up to Php10,000 monthly.  This was made possible to the members of the Social Security System (SSS) under Republic Act 11199 (Social Security Act of 2019).  SSS members who lose their jobs could apply for unemployment assistance.

“For the first time in the country’s history, meron na ngayong unemployment insurance. It will start with two months, at least meron kang Php10,000 a month if you had been paying contributions under the maximum salary credit. For two months, makakapaghanap ka ng trabaho,” – Senator Richard Gordon

How Can You Avail this New SSS Benefit under Republic Act 11199 (Social Security Act of 2019)?

First of all, remember that this is for those who involuntarily lost their jobs and not for those who resigned.  In case you are qualified, you also need to ensure that you have paid at least 36 monthly contributions and should not be more than 60 years old.

The law stipulates that the member should have made monthly contributions within the 18-month period prior to the separation or involuntary unemployment.  Section 14-B of RA 1199, states that an SSS member who finds himself involuntarily unemployed is entitled an equivalent of 50% of his average monthly salary credit for a maximum of 2 months only.

Take note however that the benefit is only limited to Php10,000 for those who are paying the maximum monthly salary credit.  For those who are paying less, you will get a lower amount based on you average monthly salary credit.

Do not rejoice yet because you have to look for a job within 2 months since this benefit is only good for 2 months and once every 3 years.
